69 Days to Purdue Football: John Bednar

Even long snappers need love.

As I referenced on the profile for Grant Ellington, we're going to have a 3-way steel cage match this year for the starting long-snapper position. Ben Makowski was recruited for the spot, but he will have to beat today's player and Ellington for the job.

2015 Projection: Possible Starter at Long Snapper

Bednar is a walk-on from Robbie Hummel's old high school in Valparaiso. According to a newsletter from his senior year of high school he was recruited by Indiana and offered a scholarship, but he saw the light and became a Boilermaker. He played offensive line and linebacker in high school but appears to have found a niche as a long snapper. He was the backup to Jesse Schmitt last year, so he is possibly in the lead for the starting job.
