Not content to let Indiana do all the Fulmer Cup scoring this early on, Purdue is now on the board, and it comes from a key player, too:
Purdue sophomore rush end Gelen Robinson was arrested over the weekend for operating a vehicle with a blood alcohol content of 0.15 percent or more and illegal possession of an alcoholic beverage.
Robinson was booked into Tippecanoe County Jail at 3:49 a.m. Saturday. He was released about 11 a.m. Saturday.
Purdue spokesman Matt Rector said head coach Darrell Hazell is aware of the situation.
Yeah, he is aware of the situation, and that situation is Gelen being a dumbass and getting behind the wheel drunk (and underage, since he just turned 20 according to his Purdue bio).Robinson was not only expected to be a starter this fall, he was also throwing shotput in track & field and wrestled a few times this winter after being a state champion in both events during high school.
Now he will sit for a well-earned lengthy suspension, and I would even advocate kicking him off the team entirely. You don't mess around with drinking and driving. Ever.
