Purdue Gets A Sugar Daddy! Brees Donates $1 Million

All the more reason that we love Mr. Brees.

Derick E. Hingle-USA TODAY Sports

Drew Brees is beloved in West Lafayette and has opened up his checkbook before, as he and his wife, Brittany, made a $2 million donation in 2007 for the Student-Athlete Academic Center. Well, our favorite quarterback was not done. Today he wrote another $1 million check to help get the Purdue Football Master Plan off the ground:

"We care so much about Purdue University," Drew Brees said. "Purdue has meant so much to me, and it has provided so many things. From the education I received and playing for coach Joe Tiller, to winning a Big Ten championship and going to the Rose Bowl, to the relationships I was able to form with many of my teammates and meeting my beautiful wife ... we are so blessed and so thankful.

"We just want to show how much we believe in our university, in our football program, in our leadership and in the direction we are heading."

In the grand scheme of things this is likely just a drop in the bucket (currently in exile in Bloomington), as building the new South End Zone complex, a new locker room, lights, and everything involved in the project is going to be north of nine figures at a casual estimate, but it is the though that counts. I definitely thank him for his contributions towards reviving a football program that is currently DOA. Hopefully by the time Baylen, Bowen, and Callen follow in their father's record breaking footsteps and take us back to Pasadena it will be in a completely renovated Ross-Ade Stadium. After all, Baylen is already 6 as the oldest, so we need to get moving.
