Purdue has had a nice little jolt in football recruiting this week and it continued yesterday when the Boilers picked up verbal commit #5 for 2016. Benaiah Franklin, out of Marietta, Georgia, is a 6'1", 200ish pound athlete that was recruited to play wide receiver. He's a 2-star recruit according to Rivals and 3-star according to 247sports. Other schools that extended offers include Arkansas State, Georgia Southern, and Miami (OH), among others.
Like the other recruits from earlier in the week, Franklin is fast, strong, and smart. Purdue's engineering program enticed him to commit and he mentioned that academics were a very important part of his selection process.

If you like "under the radar" type kids that commit early, then you're going to love Benaiah Franklin. If you hate "under the radar" type kids, then you're still going to love Benaiah Franklin because he's not going to be under the radar for very long. Check out his highlight video below and I think you'll agree. In addition to lining up at several different receiver spots, he does a little bit of everything for the offense. They have him blocking at tight end, catching passes out of the slot, and running a lot of plays out of the backfield as a running back. Franklin says that the Purdue coaching staff told him that they planned on using him in the backfield as well as receiver.
I look for Franklin to have a very strong senior season this year and pick up more offers along the way. But for now, he's ours, and I'm excited to see him in 2016.
