2015 Projection:  Reserve at Wide Receiver

Shane Mikesky is a fifth-year senior wide receiver and former 3-time state champion in the 110 meter hurdles.  He hasn't produced much on the football field so far in his career at Purdue, but he provides depth and speed for a group of receivers full of question marks.  He is also a 3-time Academic All Big 10 selection.

With no clear-cut front runner at receiver going in to Spring practice, I thought Mikesky had a shot to break out and show us what he can do with his speed in 2015.  It now looks like there are several guys ahead of him on the depth chart and he was virtually ignored in the offense during the Purdue Spring Game back in April, finishing with just one catch for one yard.  He was more involved in the jersey scrimmage earlier in the year, catching a 43-yard TD reception from Danny Etling.

At this point, I really don't know what to expect out of the wide receivers this year.  They looked sharp in the Spring Game and, on paper, appear to be deep and experienced.  There are at least 5 or 6 guys on the roster capable of stepping up and leading the way, but I don't believe Mikesky is one of them.  He will still get his chance to perform and will provide another viable deep threat for whichever quarterback ends up under center.
