It is really, really slow this time of year, so we might as well glean some news out of the women’s softball team, which advanced in the single elimination Big Ten Tournament today with a 3-2 win over Illinois.
Despite being the No. 12 seed the Boilers will face Northwestern in tomorrow’s quarterfinals at noon at Ohio State. The Boilers scored a run in the first on a groundout, but fell behind 2-1 after a home run in the bottom of the inning. Lilly Fecho would give up nothing else the rest of the way.
Purdue got the lead back in the top of the fifth on a two-run home run from Paris Andrew, and that was the difference. Fecho only gave up four hits and struck out five against a single walk. Purdue is now 31-24 on the season and has a shot at beating Northwestern, as the Wildcats won all three games in Evanston this year 4-3, 2-1, and 5-1.
