Women's Tennis, Women's Golf Make NCAA Tourney

Purdue continues to have some success with its women's spring teams.

Rob Schumacher-USA TODAY Sports

Today was a good day for the beleaguered Purdue athletic department as two of its spring sports teams qualified for the NCAA Tournament. One was not a surprise, while the other was maybe a small surprise.

Women's Golf - The ladies gold team qualified for the South Bend Regional and will be in the NCAAs for the 19th time in 20 years. This comes on the heels of a third place finish in the Big Ten Tournament this past weekend. Purdue us not as good as recent teams such as the 2010 National Championship squad or its multiple runner-up finishes, but the Boilers are seeking a 15th NCAA championships berth. This season is a step back up the ladder after Purdue failed to reach the NCAAs last season.

Women's Tennis - The women's tennis team is back int he NCAA Tournament for the fourth straight season after a 14-8 regular season and 6-5 conference finish. They will go to Athens, Georgia to face Duke in the tournament. Should they win, they get the winner between Charleston Southern and Georgia in the round of 32. Two years ago Purdue won its first round match against South Carolina before falling to Miami.
