Purdue Football: Chazmyn Turner Signs

The defensive end from Mooresville, North Carolina, committed to Purdue in December.

Jerry Lai-USA TODAY Sports

Chazmyn Turner, a 3-star defensive end from Mooresville, N.C., has signed his letter of intent to play for the Boilermakers in 2015.  The official Purdue Football twitter account announced the signing earlier this afternoon.  Turner originally committed to Purdue back on December 7th but didn't sign on National Signing Day because he wanted to take a longer look at his options (most notably, a new offer from West Virginia).

Turner is a 6'5", 240 pound athlete that also held offers from Virginia and East Carolina in addition to West Virginia.  The Boilermaker defensive line is relatively young and inexperienced, but I expect Gelen Robinson and Evan Panfil to be the anchors at defensive end.  Turner, along with JUCO transfer Shayne Henley, will definitely help add depth at the position, which is always welcomed.

It was reported on a West Virginia fan site (and this is obviously just speculation) that Chazmyn might have been set to sign with the Mountaineers but his parents didn't think it was a good fit and preferred Purdue.  West Virginia was recently punished by the NCAA and placed on two years' probation for small recruiting violations.

Here are his hudl highlights along with a link to the article we posted on the day that he committed.

Welcome to West Lafayette, Chazmyn!
