According to Chip Brown of Longhorn Illustrated (I just figured out where this rumor started), Texas A&M Chancellor John Sharp is looking into terminating Kevin Sumlin's contract after an 8-4 season and 2 quarterback defections. This would be the ultimate in petulant, new-money moves by Sharp, but it wouldn't surprise me in the least. Texas A&M is confused about why they haven't been able to buy an SEC West championship after 4 entire seasons (that's a long time, right?) in the SEC. In those 4 seasons, Sumlin has helped produce a Heisman trophy winning QB, has produced a 10 win season, and has done no worse than 8-4. Unless Sumlin has some deep, dark secret that is about to come to light, I have no idea how 8-4 is grounds to be terminated, but I don't really care. I am volunteering to gas up the Crown Vic, drive the 2 blocks to Sumlin's office, pick him up, and deposit him on Morgan's door step tomorrow afternoon.
Sumlin would leave Texas A&M with a wad of cash in his pocket and a bad taste in his mouth. I can think of no better redemption than leading your moribund alma mater out of college football hell. If you're reading this Kevin, we love you, we need you, and we would never treat you like this. Please, bring SWAG back to the Purdue football program.
P.S. This is the second time I've posted this article. I accidentally deleted it the first time trying to edit it on my janky iPad.
P.P.S. Take this with a grain of salt, but ol' Chip sure is putting his neck on a line for a story he knew would have legs.
