Purdue got a bit of a surprise last minute early enrollee for football this week. Thanks to the FanShot from fermierferd we know that Michael Mendez from Los Fresnos, Texas has joined. Mendez is a 6'4" 290 pound offensive lineman according to the Indianapolis Star.

Mendez id officially an early enrollee and graduated high school early to end up at Purdue so he can take classes this spring and go through spring practice. 247Sports lists him as an offensive guard, but there is not a lot else out there about him. He was the Class 6A District 32 offensive lineman of the year for his high school.

MaxPreps lists Los Fresnos as having gone 9-4 this year and 5-2 within their district. That was enough for them to make the state playoffs, where they won game against Edinburg North 42-7 and Del Rio 13-12 before falling in the Region 4 semifinals to Reagan 50-19. The win over Edinburg North was significant because it avenged an earlier loss to the same high school in the regular season.

To Close out, here are his highlights. This kid was so far under the radar we need sonar.
