Purdue 67, Iowa 63: Rapid Reaction

The Boilermakers beat the 25th ranked Hawkeyes, snapping a 13-game losing streak to ranked opponents.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Purdue beat 25th ranked Iowa in Mackey Arena today by a final score of 67-63, snapping a 13-game losing streak against ranked teams. Rapheal Davis led the way with 24 points, a career high.  Gabriel Olaseni had a herculean effort on the boards for the Hawkeyes, finishing with 16 (ELEVEN offensive).  After registering just 1 point in conference play before today, Basil Smotherman had a nice game as well with 13 points and 6 rebounds.

In one of the strangest games I've seen in some time, the Boilers were able to maintain control when it mattered most despite some really strange stat lines.  John Octeus and Kendall Stephens were held without a field goal, going a combined 0-7.  Davis finished with 3 three-pointers, a career high, after hitting just 4 total all season.  Isaac Haas and A.J. Hammons combined for 23 points (9-11), 7 boards, and 5 blocked shots.  The Hawkeyes led the battle on the offensive glass, 24-9.

Stay tuned for a more detailed analysis as we continue to digest this win.  Boiler Up!
