Purdue was able to address an area of desperate need with another commit today.  Jess Trussell, a 6'5", 225 lb. tight end from Arlington, TX, verbally committed to the Boilermakers during an in-home visit with offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach John Shoop on Wednesday evening.  Trussell is a 2-star tight end according to both Rivals and 247.

The Boilers have just three returning scholarship players at the tight end position for 2015 after the departure of seniors Gabe Holmes, Dolapo Macarthy, Justin Sinz, and Charles Torwudzo.  Trussell caught 22 passes for 493 yards and 7 TD's last year for Martin High School.  He had also reportedly received offers from Toledo, Houston, UNLV, and Utah St.

With incoming recruit Brycen Hopkins, Trussell will be the 5th scholarship tight end that the Boilers will have on the roster next season, which means he will almost definitely play and will most certainly not red-shirt.

Enjoy the video below of Trussell doing work.  You'll see that he runs routes well, seems to have good hands, decent speed, and also shows the same effort in blocking that he does as a receiver.  The bottom line is that this kid seems to be very well rounded and is a smart, versatile, hard-working tight end, which is exactly what this team needs.  Welcome to West Lafayette, Jess.
