Purdue Football Recruiting: Joe Schopper commits for 2015

With the transfer of Austin McGehee, Schopper could make an immediate impact in 2015 for the Boilermakers.

Purdue received its 14th (or possibly 13th) commitment yesterday when class of 2015 punter Joe Schopper verbally announced his intentions to play for the Boilermakers, according to his twitter.

Schopper visited with Purdue earlier in the summer and the coaching staff let him know that they were interested at that point, but that was before punter Austin McGehee left the program, leaving the Boilermakers with just one punter for 2014 (junior Thomas Meadows).  Meadows is relatively inexperienced in the punting role, leading many to believe that Schopper may be fighting for the starting role immediately in 2015 (obviously depending on how Meadows performs this season).  After the news of McGehee's departure, the coaching staff extended an offer to Schopper on Friday of last week and let him know that they needed him to make a decision very quickly.  The 5'11" 185 pound Indianapolis Cathedral student passed up an opportunity to play as a preferred walk on at Texas and Minnesota to join the Boilers in 2015.

Here's some impressive highlights of his junior season from hudl:
