Austin Appleby gave it a game effort, but in the end, Danny Etling was able to hang on to his starting job:
Danny Etling will be named #Purdue's starting quarterback, http://t.co/mDoTru7vxI has learned.

This is not a huge surprise, as Etling started the final seven games of last season and finished with 1,690 yards and 10 touchdowns against only 7 interceptions. That's not bad for a true freshman that was running for his life for most of his seven starts. His best game came against Indiana, where he threw for 485 yards and four touchdowns in a loss.
I do still like Appleby, however, and Purdue definitely has a quality backup in the event Etling struggles or gets injured. Freshman David Blough is also the NO. 3 QB and hopefully will not be needed, because a redshirt could be invaluable for him.
Now, for Etling to get his first win as a starting quarterback...
