12 Days To Purdue Football: Austin Appleby

The redshirt sophomore quarterback may have earned a starting job with a strong fall camp.

Later on Today we will find out the prominent role of today's player. He will either be the starting quarterback, or the top backup for Danny Etling

Austin Appleby - So.

North Canton, OH (North Canton Hoover HS)

6'5", 229 pounds

Quarterback

2014 Projection: ?

The camp-long battle between Appleby and Etling comes to a conclusion today. It became that long because Appleby showed dramatic improvement and pushed Etling all summer long. His only game action was going 5 of 6 for 68 yards and a touchdown late last season against Iowa, but he has a ton of promise.

This is Appleby's third year at Purdue after redshirting in 2012, and it is the year in which many felt he would finally make an impact. After Etling passed him last season and started most of the year the possibility of much playing time looked small. His work ethic may have paid off, however. He never felt that the starting job was out of reach and he has worked diligently to make this a fight.

We'll find out later today what it means.
