19 Days To Purdue Football: Matthew Monserez

The true freshman walk-on will primarily be a practice player this year.

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

All due respect to today's player, if we see him on the field this season we're in deep trouble, mostly because it would mean multiple catastrophic injuries.

Matthew Monserez - Fr.

South Bend, IN (St. Joseph's HS)

6'5", 205 pounds

2014 Projection: Likely redshirt

Mr. Monserez is a true freshman walk-on quarterback, so if he plays at all it means Purdue has lost all three scholarship quarterbacks (Danny Etling, Austin Appleby, and David Blough, as well as redshirt freshman walk-on Ti Domhoff.

Monserez was the quarterback at South Bend St. Joseph's for the last two seasons and his teams reached the sectional final in both years. Two seasons ago his team lost to Mishawaka Marian and true freshman offensive lineman Kirk Barron. Fortunately, even though Monserez grew up in the shadow of the Golden Dome he ended up at Purdue.
