Once again, Purdue is in need of solid linebackers, and one player that could contribute coming out of his redshirt is today's player.
Johnny Thompson - Fr. (RS)
Winder, GA (Apalachee HS)
6'3", 207 pounds
Linebacker
2014 Projection: Contributor at linebacker
Thompson was a three-star commitment that played as a tight end and an offensive tackle while on offense, then at linebacker on defense. That means he brings a ridiculous amount of versatility to Purdue and could be a Special Teams contributor. He still likely needs to gain some weight before he becomes a regular contributor at linebacker, however.
Thompson was limited in how much he could play as a senior in high school due to an injury, but had a decent junior year with 52 tackles (10 for loss), a sack, and a forced fumble. He is still likely a developing player because he hasn't played a whole lot in two years.
