In advance of next week's B1G media days the Big Ten released its preseason poll, and the news was predictably not very good. Coming off of a dismal 1-11 season the Boilers are picked to finish dead last in the west division and received the lowest votes overall:
Big Ten East
- Ohio State, 195 points (23 first-place votes)
- Michigan State, 180 points (10)
- Michigan, 136 points
- Penn State, 105.5 points
- Maryland, 84 points
- Indiana, 78.5 points
- Rutgers, 33 points
Big Ten West
- Wisconsin, 183.5 points (15)
- Iowa, 173 points (11)
- Nebraska, 157.7 points (5)
- Northwestern, 112 points (1)
- Minnesota, 96.5 points
- Illinois, 58 points
- Purdue, 31.5 points
Picks to win Big Ten Championship
Ohio State 19, Michigan State 9, Nebraska 1
Yes, Rutgers, who is new to the Big Ten, is held in higher esteem. As is Illinois, who has one a single Big Ten game in the last 2.5 years and Indiana, the worst major conference team of all time.
Nowhere to go but up!
