51 Days To Purdue Football: John Strauser And Bearooz Yacoobi

Another pair of freshmen headline today's countdown.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

As is usual for players that have their numbers in the 50's, we have two guys that are on the offensive and defensive lines. Both are freshmen that will try to be the new vanguard of Purdue football.

John Strauser - Fr. (RS)

Champaign, IL (St. Thomas More HS)

6'2", 265 pounds

Defensive End

2014 Projection: Reserve at defensive end

Bearooz Yacoobi - Fr.

Dearborn, MI (Dearborn HS)

6'5", 281 pounds

Offensive line

2014 Projection: Possible redshirt

We don't know a lot about both guys when it comes to their performance. Strauser has a lot of promise as a three-star recruit that is coming out of his redshirt year. Not only did he sit out last year, he was an early enrollee that went through spring practice last year as well. That could give him some solid playing time when Purdue goes into more of a 4-3 alignment instead of the 3-4. He also could be a guy that is more of a hybrid linebacker, as he had 146 tackles his junior season and 142 as a senior in high school.

As for Yacoobi, he is a promising offensive line recruit that likely projects as a guard at the college level. He was a team captain and team MVP his final year of high school and did not allow a sack from his position. He already comes to Purdue with good size at 6'5" 281 pounds and was a multi-sport athlete as a shot put thrower in track & field. He is also a smart kid that was a four-time Academic Achievement Award winner and he is planning on majoring in engineering.
