Purdue has a great advantage being just 60 miles from downtown Indianapolis, and it looks like future Big Ten championships in downtown Indianapolis are possible. The Big Ten announced today that Lucas Oil Stadium will host the Big Ten football Championship Game through the 2021 season.
Bankers Life Fieldhouse, just a few blocks from Lucas Oil, will also continue to rotate as host of the basketball tournament. It already has the 2016 on the books, but the Big Ten announced that the tournament will return in 2020 and 2022 as well. That makes the future rotation the following:
2015 - Chicago - United Center
2016 - Indianapolis - Bankers Life Fieldhouse
2017 - Washington, DC - Verizon Center
2018 - Not named
2019 - Chicago - United Center
2020 - Indianapolis - Bankers Life Fieldhouse
2021 - Chicago - United Center
2022 - Indianapolis - Bankers Life Fieldhouse
You can bet all the Rotel in the world that Delaney is aiming for the 2018 tournament to be in New York at either Madison Square Garden or the new Barclay's Center in Brooklyn.
The women's tournament will be at the Sears Centrein Hoffman Estates in 2015, then will return to Bankers Life Fieldhouse from 2016 through 2022. Since this is essentially the Purdue Invitational (Purdue has won 9 of the previous 19 and has reached the final three other times) keeping it close to home is always good.
