Coach Darrell Hazell and his staff have been very busy of late in handing out offers for the class of 2015. Once again, Purdue has a slow start compared to the rest of the Big Ten. Only Purdue and Indiana have just one commitment, and ours is quarterback Elijah Sindelar from Kentucky. Penn State and Nebraska are already in double digits in commits, so hopefully things will pick up over the summer.
As a side note, I am in desperate need of someone who wants to take over football recruiting news who can post regularly. If you're interested, feel free to contact me.
There are plenty of offers now out, however:
Brycen Hopkins - TE - Tight end is a major position of need with the top three guys (Gabe Holmes, Justin Sinz, and Dolapo Macarthy) all on track to graduate this year and Carlos Carvajal down due to the ACL curse. Hopkins has SEC interest from Auburn, Georgia, and Vanderbilt as a 6'5" 240 pound TE from Nashville, Tennessee. He visited Purdue last weekend and picked up an offer. His dad is an Illinois grad who played for the Houston Oilers/Tennessee Titans.
Sawyer Dawson - LB/S - Dawson is a 6'2" 190 pound safety from plant City, Florida that was also recently offered. He has offers from Marshall, Illinois, FIU, and FAU, but bigger schools like Miami, Auburn, and Nebraska have given him interest. Dawson lookslike he could be a big, hard-hitting safety, which is definitely a need.
Reche Thomas - OG - Thomas is definitely a need as a 6'4" 325 offensive guard. He has offers from Illinois and Appalachian State, but is considering an early commitment when he visits Purdue this summer. Florida and Miami have shown interest in him, as he is from Vero Beach, FL. His team made the Class 8A state playoffs last season.
Drake Jackson - OL - Jackson is a 2016 offensive lineman that at 6'2", 287 pounds he is already getting looks from bigger schools. Ohio State is interested in the Versailles, Kentucky native as well as Kentucky and Vanderbilt. Purdue has an in on him as his father, Brian Jackson, is an alum. He projects mostly as a center.
Brandon Knight - OL - Knight, from Noblesville, is a highly rated in-state player that has offers from all over including Purdue. Michigan State, Miami, Syracuse, and Cincinnati are among 11 schools that have officials offered Knight, but Purdue and Indiana at least have the in-state thing going for them. Knight was born in Lafayette and has a lot of family that are Boilermakers.
Myles Hartsfield - ATH - Hartsfield is a very highly rated 5'10" 180 pounds athlete with speed to burn. He is a 4-star from New Jersey that already has offers from Penn State, West Virginia, Pittsburgh, and Georgia Tech among several others. Unfortunately for Purdue, Florida State is interested, though they have not offered. Purdue is probably a longshot here, but you never know.
Jaylon Lane - CB - Lane is another 4-star that Purdue is at least fighting for. ESPN has him as one of the top 300 guys in the nation as a 6'1" cornerback from Texas. As a four-star he has offers from everywhere, including Florida, Florida State, Georgia, Miami, Michigan State, Notre Dame, Ohio State, and Oklahoma. It would likely be a huge upset if Purdue got him.
Richard Moore - LB - Moore is an undersized linebacker from Texas at 6' 196 pounds, but Purdue has offered along with Baylor, Arizona State, Iowa, Nebraska, and Iowa among several others. That means the kid definitely has some promise despite his smaller stature.
