We rarely talk about long snappers around here, but with senior Jesse Schmitt set to depart after this season the Boilers will be in need of a replacement. I can name the last three long snappers (John Finch, Kevin Ballinger, and Schmitt), mostly because I run this blog. Otherwise, no one knows their names because they do a great job and virtually every snap for about 10 straight seasons has been perfect.
Today's player is possibly the top candidate to replace Schmitt next season:
Grant Ellington - Jr.
Hometown: LaGrange, Ill (Drake University)
Long Snapper
6', 205 pounds
2014 Projection: Reserve Long snapper
You're damn right I have video on a long snapper!
We're likely going to be waiting for awhile before Ellington sees the field, but it is nice to see Purdue has some depth at the position. If you want to see him perform a little sooner than that, it is time for some trick-snapping:
Me n @schmitter50 making a snapping trick shot video this summer!! Give us ideas and get the word out with some retweets! Retweet RT RT haha
