95 Days To Purdue Football: Evan Panfil

The true sophomore is already fighting for a starting position.

Purdue played a lot of freshmen last season almost by necessity. As a result, the Boilers stunk out the joint, but those players at least gained experience. One of those such players is today's featured player.

Evan Panfil -So.

New Lennox, IL (Lincoln-Way Central)

Defensive End

6'4", 240 pounds

2014 Projection: Contributor at defensive end

Panfil came to Purdue after originally committing to his home state of Illinois. His defensive line coach and recruiter with the Fighting Illini left, and Purdue was the beneficiary as he flipped his commitment. He is part of a promising 2013 Defensive line class that includes Ra'Zahn Howard, Adam Replogle, John Strauser, Antoine Miles, and others. That class needs to come into its own immediately, as Ryan Russell has the most experience on the defensive line by far.

Panfil saw limited action in seven games as he avoided a redshirt. He notched five tackles, one of them for loss, and showed enough that he could contend to start this year opposite Russell.
