98 Days To Purdue Football: Will Schott

New, comment

The walk-on defensive end is a former state high-jump champion.

Today's player is a walk-on from last season, but he has a new number. No. 95 on last year's roster has now moved up to No. 98

Will Schott - Fr. (RS)

Hometown: Indianapolis, IN

Defensive End

6'3", 211 pounds

2014 Projection: Deep reserve at defensive end

Schott has been on the roster for two seasons now without playing a down. He comes from Roncalli HS on the south side of Indianapolis. Roncalli has been a state power in the past with eight football state championships in class 3A and 4A, but they have struggled recently. They have not even won a sectional since 2005. The biggest reason for that was a move up to 4A, where they have run into Cathedral, who has beaten them in the state tournament six of the past seven years.

Schott was a decent running back at Roncalli as you can see from his highlight reel here. He is at Purdue as a defensive end, however, and will likely be deep on the bench mostly because, well, he is a little known walk-on. Some guys do make the field, however, through hard work and such, just as Landon Feichter has done.

Of note, however, was his high school track career. Schott was the 2012 Indiana state champion in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 8 inches in the state meet. Why not come up with a gimmick play where he gets a running start and leaps over the offensive line for a sack?
