Raheem Mostert and Dani Bunch Earn Big Ten Awards

Purdue had two Athletes of the Meet at the Big Ten Championships

Sandra Dukes-US PRESSWIRE

This past weekend Purdue hosted the Big Ten Outdoor Track & Field Championship with positive results. Those accoledes continued today as a pair of Purdue athletes took home Athlete of the Meet honors.

On the men's side football player Raheem Mostert was named the Track Athlete of the meet. Mostert won the Big Ten championship in both the 100 meters and the 200 meters, becoming a two-time Big Ten champ just like he did during the indoor season when he won the 60 meters and the 200 meters. I am excited to see this speed on display this fall as Mostert should be the primary kick and punt returner and will get more carries in the backfield.

On the women's side Dani Bunch was named the Field Athlete of the Meet as well as the overall Field Athlete of the Year. Bunch set the school record this season in the shot put and won six different events. She also won the same award at the 2012 Indoor championships. This past weekend she finished second in both the shot put and the hammer throw.

As a final note, Mostert was also the Track athlete of the Meet at the indoor championships earlier this year. Hopefully the football team can open some holes for him, as he has the speed to be electric this fall.
