This is just a quick update here to clear up some notes on where we are with the recruiting class of 2015. There has been some confusion as to how many commits there are, how many spots are open, and others. First, here is the current scholarship situation as far as I know:

If there is a turnaround in 2015 it paves the way for a huge 2016 because there are so few seniors (11) next year. The upperclassmen list can always change if players leave the program (as happens), but as of right now, we only have two scholarships open and 21 "official" commitments.
I say official commitments because there have been other players announce, most notably Jeff Christian, that they have committed. These players do hold offers but according to the Lafayette J&C (found by reader Fermierferd) Purdue has not accepted those commitments:
Purdue's 2015 class currently has 21 known commitments. Despite published reports, the Boilermakers haven't accepted a commitment from Ohio defensive back Jeff Christian. This is not the first time it's happened to Purdue this year.
Florida's Shelton Lewis and Reche Thomas along with Georgia's Tyshawn Brown made similar announcements but are not currently part of Purdue's 2015 class.
We'll see how that changes in the coming weeks before signing day, but I honestly have no idea how that is supposed to work. one interesting possibility is the closure of UAB's football program, as their entire roster will be released and can transfer with immediate eligibility. There are some talented players there, but any additions from them would count against the scholarship limit, of course. I have no knowledge of us going after any of their players.
Finally, here are the star and class rankings according to the top three recruiting services:

Overall, the class rates slightly better than the 2014 class, with the mess at Michigan casting a ton of doubt on the Wolverines. They currently rank last in the Big Ten with only 8 commitments according to Rivals.
The bottom line is that we deride this class on being "under the radar" and with "diamonds in the rough", but when you have won four games in two years that is likely the best hope. We don't have Santa Booster dropping down the chimney of 5-star recruits with bags of cash because we're Purdue. We don't have a great campus or game day atmosphere to sell. The only thing we have to sell is playing time and offers for hungry players that want to work and prove they are underrated. For our sakes we had better hope there really are some under the radar players here.
