2014 Maui Invitational: BYU vs. Purdue GameThread

Purdue and BYU meet for the first time in almost 36 years.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

It has been a long, long time since Purdue and BYU have played in basketball. The only meeting occurred in the championship of the 1978 Cougar Classic, when BYU won 76-64 out in Provo on December 9, 1978.

That is a plodding, low scoring game compared to what we may see this evening. BYU leads the nation in scoring at 99 points per game and had 121 yesterday against Chaminade. They love to shoot the three-pointer as well. They hit their first 11 against the Silverswords and Chase Fischer was 10 of 13 from long range for 30 points.

Fortunately, they are pretty much averse to defense. They have given up at least 85 points in three of their five games. If you like basketball games with a lot of scoring this is probably the game for you. The Cougars also have plenty of size to match up with Isaac Haas and A.J. Hammons in the middle for us.
