After scoring 39 points, grabbing 16 rebounds, and blocking three shots Purdue freshman Vince Edwards has earned the first Big Ten honor of his career. Hopefully it is the first of many. This afternoon the Big Ten announced that Edwards was named the Freshman of the Week:

F – 6-7 – Middletown, Ohio – Middletown
- Averaged 19.5 points, 8.0 rebounds and 1.5 blocks per game in leading Purdue to a pair of wins over Samford and IUPUI
- In his Boilermaker debut against Samford, scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting, pulled down eight rebounds and tallied a pair of assists
- Against the Jaguars, poured in 26 points on 11 field goals, corralled eight rebounds and recorded three blocks
- Became the first Purdue freshman since 1981 to score at least 26 points and corral eight or more rebounds in a single game
- Earns his first Freshman of the Week honor
