2015 Purdue Basketball Recruiting: Grant Weatherford Signs

The senior point guard from Hamilton Heights has signed with Purdue.

The second commitment from Hamilton County is now on board for coach Painter:

I think people will like Weatherford because he is a throwback. he is a gritty, tough point guard that is not afraid to get on the floor and do some dirty work. He was a standout in football for Hamilton Heights HS as a receiver and defensive back, but he also played the occasional quarterback too. He easily could have gone to Purdue on a football scholarship too. Who does this sound like?

Last season he averaged 11.2 points, 4.5 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 3.3 steals, but missed some time due to an off-the-court suspension. I do trust his coach in that suspension, however, as Chad Ballenger was an assistant coach at Kokomo when I was there, so I know him well. Last season Heights was 18-4 and won their conference, but were beaten by Muncie Central in the Class 3A sectional. The year before that they were 15-9 and won the sectional before losing in the regional to Fort Wayne Concordia.

Weatherford is a decent shooter and an unselfish player from what I have seen. I will see him at least a few times this coming season as well, though I haven't settled on the exact dates yet. We're getting a solid, gritty player that is more like an old-school Purdue point guard.
