Jacquil Taylor was back in the news this week as his Beaver Country Day School finally had some games after a significant layoff. Isaac Haas also continues to tear it up as he began the county tournament down in Alabama.
Here is the past week for our four incoming freshmen:
Dakota Mathias - G - Elida HS, Elida, OH - Elida is now 9-2 after a pair of wins last weekend for Dakota. On Friday Elida beat St. mary’s memorial 77-59 while Saturday night they beat Archbold 67-56. Mathias now has the long time off with no games until January 25 against Toledo Central Catholic. Against Archbold Dakota had 21 points and connected on five three-pointers to go with three rebounds and two assists. Against Memorial he nearly had a triple-double, finishing with 29 points, 10 assists, 6 rebounds, and four steals.
For the season Dakota is averaging 27 points, 6.9 rebounds, 5.9 assists, 2.4 steals, 54% FG, 48% 3FG, and 85% FT.
Vince Edwards - F - Middletown HS, Franklin, OH – Edwards’ team also got two more victories with a 54-47 Friday conference win over Lakota West and a 56-43 Saturday win over Bishop Watterson. Edwards had a double-double of 22 points and 16 rebounds on Friday against Lakota West. On Saturday he added another double-double of 17 points, 14 rebounds, and five assists.

Old Boiler also posted a great link to his full game this past week against St. Mark’s, where Taylor had an offensive putback to send the game to a second overtime. His team played at the Hoops Dream Magazine Classic this past weekend and the results and info can be found there.
Isaac Haas - C - Piedmont, AL, Hoke's Bluff HS – Hoke’s Bluff added two more wins with a 64-44 win over Jacksonville on Friday and a 60-37 win over Glencoe in the county tournament last night. Haas had 30 points, 13 rebounds, and six blocks in the victory over Glencoe. He had 24 on Friday night in the win over Jacksonville.
