In a rarity, a MAC team is favored over a Big Ten team in a Big Ten Stadium.

It is Homecoming in West Lafayette, and for the first time since 1937 Purdue is not playing a Big Ten team for Homecoming. That 1937 game was a 7-0 win over Carnegie Tech, but they were unavailable as an opponent this weekend.

Instead, we get Northern Illinois, a team that made history last season as the first MAC team to ever play in a BCS bowl game. Since they have already beaten Iowa this year, a victory over Purdue would give them two Big Ten wins and a leg up on making a second BCS bowl if the rankings fall right and they stay undefeated.
