Darrell Hazell isn't the only Purdue coach likely spending tomorrow's holiday in a bad mood. Matt Painter's No. 1 big man target for the 2014 class had seemed to be Alabama native Isaac Haas, who visited West Lafayette last weekend. Unfortunately for Matt Painter and company, Haas got a "gut feeling" on his visit to Wake Forest this weekend and committed to the Demon Deacons tonight.
Haas had planned to make official visits to Purdue, Wake Forest, Texas A&M and Virginia on consecutive weekends, but he tweeted yesterday that he canceled his Virginia visit. Presumably that TAMU visit now won't happen either.
For the Boilers, it will be interesting to see where they go from here. Haas - at 7-foot-2 and 275 pounds - had seemed to emerge as their major target/AJ Hammons-leaves-early replacement plan. It would seem likely that the Boilers will use at least one of their five available Class of 2014 scholarships on a big man, but talented 7'2 guys aren't exactly growing on trees.
Steve McElvene, from New Haven (IN) and Jabari Craig (Fishburne Military Academy) are likely to see an increase in Purdue attention, though the Boilers had been recruiting them already.
Purdue has just one commit for the 2014 class, guard Dakota Mathias. Vince Edwards has been a longtime target, while guys like Bryant McIntosh are more recent targets that Painter and his staff are going after hard.
