Purdue is attempting to have the best secondary in the Big Ten in 2013, and today's player is a possible starter in that goal.
Antoine Lewis - Jr.
Broadview, Illinois (Proviso East HS)
5'10", 185 pounds
Cornerback
2013 Projection: possible starter at cornerback
Lewis was one of several cornerbacks that joined the program as part of the 2010 recruiting class. He hasn't had a huge impact yet, but he has been a regular reserve for two seasons after redshirting in 2010.
Lewis saw his first action in 2011 when he played in six games and got one tackle. Last season saw more playing time when he got into 12 of 13 games. He finished with eight tackles and got his first career interception against Marshall early in the season. His second pick came against Indiana and he was able to add a 50 yard return to that one.
Lewis likely could play a large role as Purdue's nickel cornerback. Ricardo Allen has one starting spot locked down and Frankie Williams is expected to replace Josh Johnson. That leaves Normondo Harris and Lewis as the next two corners, both of which ill likely play a lot in situational roles.
