6 Days To Purdue Football: Gary Bush

Purdue's most experienced receiver is today's featured player.

Kirk Irwin

By this time next week we'll officially be into football season! Since it is now game week, let's start off with Purdue's most experienced receiver.

Gary Bush - Sr. (5)

Miami, Florida (Christopher Columbus HS)

6', 179 pounds

Wide Receiver

2013 Projection: Contributor at wide receiver

Gary is kind of overshadowed by his younger brother, Deon Bush, who stayed home at The U and has become an excellent safety. Gary's career has brought him north, where he comes into the season with 81 career receptions for 770 yards and 11 touchdowns. His best season was last year, where he bubble screened his way to 41 catches, 365 yards, and seven touchdowns.

So far Gary has been pushed steadily down the depth chart under coach Hazell, but should still get plenty of opportunity for a big final year. My heart goes out to Gary because his father is back home in Miami battling liver cancer. I met his parents last year before the Michigan game because they came to watch a half of Gary's game, then they were going to head to Chicago to see Dion play against Notre Dame. They're a nice family that is hardcore behind my two college teams.

Gary was familiar with several Purdue players before he came up here. He played AAU basketball with Gabe Holmes where he was quite the talented point guard. He was also invited to the Nike South Florida All-Star game with Kevin Pamphile and Brandon Taylor. If coach Painter needed a backup point guard this season he should give Gary a call. He averaged 21 points and 10 assists as a senior. He was also a standout in track with a third place finish in the state.
