Since many players want the lower jersey numbers nowadays it seems strange to have two walk-ons this low in the countdown. That is what we have today, however, as both players featured in the No. 11 jersey are walk-ons.
Landau Lang - Jr.
Merrillville, Indiana (Merrillville HS)
5'9", 186 pounds
Cornerback
2013 Projection: Deep reserve at cornerback.
Austin Parker - So.
Fort Wayne, Indiana (East Gadsden HS)
5'11", 201 pounds
Quarterback
2013 Projection: Third string quarterback at best.
Very little is known about Landau Lang. he was a high school teammate of starting receiver Dolapo Macarthy when both were at Merrillville HS, but there is one thing that makes him stand out:
He is a transfer from Indiana.
Yes, Landau Lang is the extremely rare player that has gone from the Hoosiers to the Boilermakers in the Old Oaken Bucket rivalry. As a freshman in 2011 he was the Scout Team player of the week after the Purdue game, but that was the only honor on his IU bio. In high school he had an impressive 112 tackles, six forced fumbles, two interceptions, and two blocked kicks.
As for Parker, he is the most experienced quarterback on the entire roster after Rob Henry and linebacker Sean Robinson. He came on very late in last season's blowout of Eastern Michigan and completed one pass for no yards. He also rushed twice for eight yards. For Parker, this may end up being his only career action given Purdue's depth at quarterback, but if Danny Etling redshirts this season Parker could emerge as the emergency No. 3 guy.
Given Purdue's unfortunate recent history at the position that might be a good thing.
