35 Days To Purdue Football: Johnny Thompson

Another true freshman looks to be an immediate contributor.

Today was a busy day of house hunting, so I apologize for getting to this later in the day. Another incoming freshman is the subject of today's profile, just five short weeks away from the kickoff of the 2013 season.

Johnny Thompson - Fr.

Winder, Georgia (Apalachee HS)

6'3", 200 pounds

2013 Projection: Redshirt

Thompson comes in as one of three players from Georgia this year, joining Keyante Green and Danny Ezechukwu as players from the Peach state. He has good height to be an incoming linebacker, earning him a three-star rating by most services. Unfortunately, I am betting he needs to put on at least 20-30 pounds before he can see the field.

Last year he played mostly on offense at tackle and at tight end, but we brought him in as a linebacker after he had 52 tackles and a sack with a forced fumble as a junior. He is likely a developmental player that will redshirt this season and won't see the field until 2014 at the earliest.
