Today is another specialist in the countdown as we feature our senior punter

Cody Webster - Sr.

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania (Central Dauphin East HS)

6'1", 210 pounds

Punter

2013 Projection: Starter at Punter

Cody has been a starter from day one and his mom was awesome his freshman year when she brought me a case of Yuengling as a thank you to the early coverage when Purdue was recruiting him. It has been fast, but Cody is entering his senior year as one of the best punters in the Big Ten and on the watch list for the Ray Guy Award.

Cody has averaged roughly 43 yards per punt over the course of his career and has a long of 79 yards when he was a freshman. He has also served part-time as the holder on kick placements. Last season he showed some of his old athleticism with a couple of fake punts. He technically led Purdue in yards per rushing attempt as he had two carries for 20 yards, giving him a stellar 10 yards per rush. In high school he was asked to play defensive back, Quarterback, and wide receiver, so don't be surprised if he throws a pass on a fake eventually. he does have the athleticism to do something with the ball other than kick it.

Finally, Cody was one of Purdue's two-sport athlete's this past year. He was able to earn a walk-on spot in the bullpen for the baseball team this spring as a left-handed pitcher. His work was very brief. He only pitched in three games and had a 37.80 ERA after giving up seven earned runs in an inning and two thirds of work total. He won't return to Alexander Field in 2014 as he has mentioned he'll be busy preparing for a possible NFL career.
