2014 Purdue Football Recruiting: Trae Hart, WR

Coach Hazell and Co. land their first commit for the 2014 class.

Ronald Martinez

Coach Darrell Hazell and the Boilermakers picked up their first 2014 commitment after Trae Hart, a wide receiver out of Dallas' First Baptist Academy, committed to the "University of Purdue" on Friday.

Terrelle Pryor jokes aside, Hart brings one of the most valuable weapons on the football field to West Lafayette...SPEED. Hart only tips the scales at 155 but when you can run a 4.38 forty, some things can be overlooked. Purdue beat out the likes of Baylor, Cincinnati, Rice, and SMU for the services of Hart, although Purdue was his first and only offer so far.

Last year saw Hart put up some numbers that would make Tecmo Bowl Bo Jackson blush. Hart posted 2,044 yards on 108 catches, coming out to an 18.9 yards per catch average to go along with 29 touchdowns. As you can see in his highlight footage below, he's also a factor in the return game (check out :48 and 2:08), racking up 3 kick return touchdowns to go along with a punt return touchdown as well. His vision and elusiveness obviously look impressive against smaller Dallas-area teams, but will he be able to translate that to Big Ten football?

Hart led all Dallas-area receivers in receptions, receiving yards, and touchdowns while earning Texas Association of Private and Parochial School all-state honors. As Raheem Mostert leaves the program after Hart's first year at Purdue, an impact in the return game could be made right away. But at just 155 pounds, will he be able to become an effective Big Ten receiver or add on the weight to make him a more durable asset in the passing game? Only time will tell.
