2014 Purdue Basketball Recruiting: Purdue Makes Tyler Ulis Cut

Purdue is still trying to fill its 2014 recruiting class and a major target made some cuts of his own yesterday at Purdue's benefit. Tyler Ulis is listed only as a 5'8" 150 point guard, but he must be doing something right if he is the No. 69 player nationally according to Rivals and a four-star prospect according to ESPN.

Yesterday the highly regarded player narrowed his list down to seven schools, and Purdue made the cut. Here are the other six:

DePaul - HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA! Seriously? They get the home town token nod.

Florida State - Bizarre, as they are far from a basketball power, but have been in the running for many big names of late.

Iowa - SO! MUCH! HATE!

Northwestern - We may have to take this Chris Collins guy seriously if he can get four-star recruits to Evanston.

USC - They have a basketball team?

Michigan State - Here we go again.

As you can see, Purdue is facing some stiff competition for Ulis from our Big Ten brethren. Even if he doesn't end up at Purdue we're likely going to see him in an opposing uniform.

Judging by his comments, I would say Michigan State is in the lead:

Ulis has called Michigan State his "dream school," telling Chicago Hoops the Spartans have been recruiting him since eighth grade and that he has always been around the program. The 5-foot-8 player is the cousin of former Spartans guard Travis Walton, the Big Ten's defensive player of the year in 2009.

Ulis does hold a Michigan State offer, and Purdue has famously lost out to the Spartans before.

Ulis looks to be a player a lot like LewJack, only better. I don't think USC and DePaul are serious contenders because they don't even have recognizable college basketball programs at the moment, so that makes it a true final five of four Big Ten schools and Florida State.
