This is a day late, so I apologize to Will, but I got hung up on a few things last night. I try to do a profile on every player on the roster with no exceptions even for the walk-ons, and that is what we're dealing with today.
Will Schott - Fr. (RS)
Hometown: Indianapolis, IN
Defensive End
6'4", 200 pounds
2013 Projection: Deep reserve at defensive end
When I first saw Will Schott on the roster I started to wonder if he was any relation to long-time Purdue Sports Information Director Tom Schott. I still don't know the answer to that question, but Will Schott comes to Purdue as a now redshirt freshman from Roncalli on the south side of Indianapolis. Roncalli has been a state power in the past with eight football state championships in class 3A and 4A, but they have struggled recently. They have not even won a sectional since 2005. The biggest reason for that was a move up to 4A, where they have run into Cathedral, who has beaten them in the state tournament six of the past seven years.
Schott was a decent running back at Roncalli as you can see from his highlight reel here. He is at Purdue as a defensive end, however, and will likely be deep on the bench because of guys like Jalani Phillips, Ryan Russell, and Ryan Watson well in front of him.
Of note, however, was his high school track career. Schott was the 2012 Indiana state champion in the high jump with a height of 6 feet, 8 inches in the state meet. Why not come up with a gimmick play where he gets a running start and leaps over the offensive line for a sack?
