Boilermakings Needs A New Softball Coach

New, 3 comments

Purdue sports news, notes and links for May 13.

Purdue is in need of a new softball coach as Kim Maher resigned as head softball coach after eight seasons. The Boilers struggled to a 23-32 record with several close losses this year and ended Friday with a quarterfinal loss in the Big Ten Tournament to Nebraska. 12 losses were by one run this year, and three more came in extra innings, marking the difference between a likely NCAA campaign and a losing record.

Maher led Purdue to several program firsts, including its first national ranking in 2009 and the only two NCAA appearances in program history in 2008 and 2009. Purdue won a game in the 2008 tournament and was regional runner-up in 2009. She leaves with a 240-204-3 record, and her successor will get a new softball complex being built near Alexander Field to continue building the program.
