2013 Big Ten Women's Basketball Tournament: Purdue vs. Wisconsin

Purdue's ladies look to defend their Big Ten Tournament crown.

Michael Hickey-US PRESSWIRE

Purdue's women's basketball team has had a rough season, falling short of winning the Big Ten with some pretty ugly losses after a very promising start. The Big Ten Tournament has always been their playground, however. The Boilers have won eight of the 18 Big Ten women's tournaments played so far, which is double the total of second place Ohio State with four.

As you can see, the Boilers own this event. They are the defending champions as well. Today they begin defense of their crown as the No. 3 seed when they face No. 11 seed Wisconsin at roughly 2pm on Big Ten Network.

Wisconsin was 12-18 overall this year and 3-13 in Big Ten play, but had a huge win in upsetting regular season champ Penn State. Yesterday they beat Illinois 58-57 to reach the game with Purdue. Purdue won the only regular season meeting between the two 58-48 on February 14 in Madison.

If Purdue wins they will play tomorrow at 5pm against the Nebraska-Iowa winner. Purdue beat Nebraska 69-66 in Lincoln on January 5 in overtime, but inexplicably lost both games to Iowa by a total of 36 points.

So consider this your open thread for the Boilers as they try to hang a ninth Big Ten Tournament championship banner in Mackey Arena.
