For whatever reason, Purdue produces great divers. David Boudia proved it by winning gold as the best 10-meter diver in the world last summer and has cashed in with a new show on ABC. well, it looks like that tradition is continuing, as Purdue produced a National Champion tonight.
Casey Matthews, a junior diver from New Jersey, won the consolation final yesterday in the 1-meter event at the NCAA Championships here in Indianapolis. Tonight, she did one better. she gave Purdue another National Championship by winning the 3-meter event.
In the preliminaries earlier in the day she finished with the highest score at 374.15 and topped it in the night final. Her 386.55 in the final round was almost nine points better than Haley Casper of Arizona State. She also gained Purdue 20 points in the team competition, moving Purdue into 16th place in the team standings with 44 points.
Congrats Casey! way to represent Purdue diving, which is quickly becoming a premier program.
