2013 Purdue Football Recruiting: Keith Byars II

Purdue adds a third running back and an Ohio State legacy.

Just days before signing day Purdue has landed the son of another long-time NFL player. As you may know, defensive tackle Brandon Taylor is the son of Hall of Fame linebacker Lawrence Taylor. Today Purdue got running back Keith Byars II, the son of NFL running back Keith Byars, who played for the Eagles, Dolphins, Patriots, and Jets from 1986-98.

The elder Byars rushed for 3,109 yards and 23 touchdowns and caught 610 passes for 5,661 yards and 31 touchdowns over the course of his career. His don is a 5'10" 210 pound running back out of Boca Raton high school in Florida. Your highlights:

This past year was a good one for Byars. He was originally a 2012 class member before going to Milford Academy in New York during a prep year. The Palm Beach Post stated that he was talented, but often injured in high school:

Byars struggled with injuries in high school, but still ran for 655 yards and nine touchdowns as a senior. He rushed for 484 yards for seven touchdowns as a junior.

While injuries are a concern, the kid has talent enough to be considered a three-star prospect by all services. His dad was an Ohio State product, so he comes from a Big Ten family.

At least we won't have to rely on him solely at running back in this class. Purdue has Keyante Green and David Yancey already committed as running back.

Welcome aboard, young man!
