The 2013 State Tournament has its first semi-major upset as Class 4A No. 6 rated Hamilton Southeastern was knocked off in overtime by North Central. North Central won 78-68 in overtime. This is a measure of revenge for the Panthers, as Ronnie Johnson saw his high school career end last season when Gary Harris hit a buzzer-beating three-pointer in round one. North Central features Purdue targets Perry Poindexter (2014) and Eron Gordon (2016, little brother of Eric Gordon).
Gordon had 16 points, while University of Michigan signee Zak Irvin had 29 for HSE. North Central was also down 15 at the half. They will now play Fishers on Friday, while the other semi-final will have Defending State champ Carmel facing Noblesville.
Here are some of the other scores of note tonight:
- Hyron Edwards (a top target in 2015) is already out of the tournament as East Chicago was eliminated by No. 1 and undefeated Munster 55-45. I can't seem to find his stats, but hopefully I can in the morning.
- The rest of the Purdue targets play on Friday in the semifinals due to byes or having already won.
