2014 Purdue Football Recruiting: Week 15 Results

One Purdue recruit was a state champion while two others will play for a crown this week.

Pat Lovell-USA TODAY Sports

This is a huge time for Purdue football recruiting as Darrell Hazell and company are out on the road looking got more commits in the class of 2014. Already this weekend there are a large number of prospects headed to Purdue including the following:

Tim Cason - 3-star DB (already committed)

Chris Jones - 3-star DB (South Florida commit)

Juan Jenkins - 3-star DB

LaDarius Wiley - 3-star DB

Avonte Maddox - 2-star DB

De'Chavon Hayes - 3-star RB JuCo

A.J. Allen - 3-star OT JuCo

Renell Wren - 3-star DE

Keiwan Jones - 2-star DT

Martesse Patterson - 2-star OG

Cole Herdman - 2-star TE

Jawhaun Bentley - 3-star ILB

Simmie Cobbs - 3-star WR (already committed)

Gregory Phillips - 3-star WR (already committed)

Will Colmery 2-star DE (already committed)

Of these I think it is clear that Allen, Patterson, and Bentley need to be priorities. Allen could provide immediate assistance at a position of huge need, especially if Denzel Ward is as good as advertised.

In the meantime, a handful of current commits were still playing int heir state playoffs last week:

Will Colmery - Nazareth Academy, LaGrange, IL - DE - SEASON COMPLETE

Simmie Cobbs - Oak Park-River Forest HS, IL - WR - SEASON COMPLETE

Tim Cason - Clarkston HS, MI - DB - Beat Detroit Catholic Central 32-14 for Michigan Division 1 State Championship - Cason is a state champion and he played a large part in the title game victory last week at Ford Field. Cason had an interception in the title game on defense and caught a pass for 13 yards on offense. He also returned a punt for 11 yards.

Gelen Robinson - Lake Central HS, IN - DE/LB- SEASON COMPLETE

Denzel Ward - Simeon HS, Chicago, IL - OT - SEASON COMPLETE

David Blough - Creekview HS, Carrollton, TX - QB - SEASON COMPLETE

Austin McGehee - Pine Bluff, AR HS - P - Beat Greenwood 37-34 - McGehee kicked the game-winning 47 yard field goal as time expired to send Pine Bluff to the Arkansas Class 6A state title game over Greenwood. The victory broke a 50-game winning streak for Greenwood, which included a win in last year's title game over Pine Bluff. Pine bluff gets a rematch with El Dorado, who already beat Pine Bluff earlier this season.

Gregory Phillips - Arabia Mountain HS, Lithonia, GA - WR - SEASON COMPLETE

Kirk Barron - Marian HS, Mishawaka, IN - OL - SEASON COMPLETE

Trae Hart - First Baptist Academy, Dallas, TX - WR - Beat Frisco Legacy Christian 47-4 - First Baptist is in the Texas private school state championship game with a perfect record after another blowout win. Hart scored twice in this one, once on a 22-yard pass and again on a 53-yard interception return. All told he had 8 receptions for 147 yards and a score. His season numbers are excellent with 48 receptions for 1,037 yards and 14 TDs to go with 22 total touchdowns (he has at least one rushing and one punt return to go with a pick-6) and he has even kicked 5 PATs.

Added note: it appears as if Blough, Barron, and Cason want to enroll early to go through spring practice, which would be a huge boon for Cason and Barron, who could play immediately.
