2014 Purdue Football Recruiting: Week 16 (And Final) Results

Another Purdue recruit finished his season as a state champion.

Sandra Dukes-USA TODAY Sports

This is the last update I have, as virtually all high school seasons around the country are over. Only one recruit in action this past week, but I also have some updates on how the three newest players did this past year.

In a bizarre twist Austin McGehee was supposed to take his official visit to Purdue this past weekend, but had to cancel when his high school team made the Arkansas 6a championship game. Well, weather got in the way, and their Class 6A final was pushed ahead to this coming Saturday at 6:30 p.m. in Little Rock.

First, a look at the current class in terms of rankings:

Now, onto the final updates:

Will Colmery - Nazareth Academy, LaGrange, IL - DE - SEASON COMPLETE

Simmie Cobbs - Oak Park-River Forest HS, IL - WR - SEASON COMPLETE

Tim Cason - Clarkston HS, MI - DB - SEASON COMPLETE, STATE CHAMPION

Gelen Robinson - Lake Central HS, IN - DE/LB- SEASON COMPLETE

Denzel Ward - Simeon HS, Chicago, IL - OT - SEASON COMPLETE

David Blough - Creekview HS, Carrollton, TX - QB - SEASON COMPLETE

Austin McGehee - Pine Bluff, AR HS - P - Weather Delay - State championship game is this Saturday at 6:30 p.m.

Gregory Phillips - Arabia Mountain HS, Lithonia, GA - WR - SEASON COMPLETE

Kirk Barron - Marian HS, Mishawaka, IN - OL - SEASON COMPLETE

Trae Hart - First Baptist Academy, Dallas, TX - WR - Beat Bryan Brazos Christian in TAPPS State Championship - Hart became the second future boilermaker to win a state championship as First Baptist rolled to an undefeated season and won the Texas private school championship. In the title game Hart had a 79 yard fumble return for a touchdown that put his team up 28-7 in the second quarter. He also caught six passes for 27 yards.

For the season Hart led his team in scoring with 23 total touchdowns, five PAT kicks, and a two-point conversion. He caught 54 passes for 1,064 yards and 14 TDs and rushed four times for six yards and another score. That left eight more TDs he scored via punt return, kick return, interception, or fumble recovery.

Brandon Roberts - Lowndes HS, Voldosta, GA - DB - Lowndes made the third round of the Georgia 6A playoffs before falling to Norcross 28-7. They finished the season 9-4 and Roberts had a pretty big season for them. In his second to last game he was assigned to cover Preston Williams, one of the top receiving recruits in the country:

One of the big keys for Lowndes was slowing down Lovejoy wide receiver Preston Williams, who is considered by most recruiting analysts as the top wide receiver in the country. Williams, a 6-foot-5 junior who has committed to Tennessee, had five receptions for 155 yards and a touchdown.

"You can't really stop him, but we were able to slow him down," McPherson said. "We put our best cornerback Brandon Roberts on him most of the night. Brandon did a great job."

Jawhaun Bentley - DeMatha HS, Hyattsville, MD - LB - DeMatha is a very well known high school basketball power, but they played in the Washington Catholic Athletic Conference championships and won the title this season. Bentley had a big season with 113 tackles, 26 for loss, four sacks, and an interception. This glowing article from the Washington Post has me very excited to see him:

"Number one, he brings leadership to the program," DeMatha Coach Elijah Brooks said. "I know he'll only be a freshman next year but he's mature well beyond his years, and if anyone can make an impact on a program immediately, it's Ja'Whaun. He's just a phenomenal player. He's physical and has a knack for the football."

Keiwan Jones - Dunnellon HS, Dunnellon, FL - DT - It appears that Jones can play inside or outside and given his current size I see him moving more outside. His high school team was 6-4 this year and did not make the high school playoffs.
