Purdue Loses to Iowa 38-14

Joe Robbins

This will be brief as a write this from a car on the way back from Las Vegas, but unlike Purdue football, I give the people what they want.

Purdue got on the board today which is more than you can say about these past couple weeks. Hopes were high(er) than they'd been recently, with an average Iowa team coming into West Lafayette. Beatable? Probably not. But can we score some points? Yes!

Iowa eventually pulled away, but up until late in the third you could have called it a ballgame. Austin Appleby made his first appearance in a Boilermakers uniform late in the action, and granted he was playing Iowa's backups, he looked great.  Appleby connected with Danny Anthrop late in the 4th for a 44-yard touchdown that saw Anthrop shake a guy after a great toss from the QB.

In the end, we aren't going anywhere this year. We've known that for a few games now. But in a season where you aren't going anywhere, you just need to see those flashes of promise. Today we finally saw some of those. Etling showed his toughness in the pocket and had himself a pretty good game, Appleby showed that he's not out of the quarterback discussion just yet and in the end, that's all you can really ask for at this point in the season.
