2013-14 Purdue Men’s Basketball: Boilers No. 30 In KenPom Rankings

Purdue is rated as one of the top teams in the nation according to KenPom.

Jonathan Daniel

We're less than two weeks away from the first college basketball game of the season and that means the preseason rankings are coming out. KenPom, which runs some sort of new advanced metrics statistical analysis I don't understand, thinks very highly of our Boilermakers. While I tend to ascribe to the old eyes tests of "Tom Crean can't attack a zone or beat Wisconsin" or "It's easy to defend the rim with two tall guys like Jay Simpson and A.J. Hammons in the paint," KenPom is all the rage because it tells you why Tom Crean sucks against a zone or Wisconsin. Here is your full top 30:

Purdue should have plenty of chances to build a solid tournament resume by playing No. 2 Michigan State, No. 4 Oklahoma State, No. 7 Ohio State (twice), No. 12 Michigan (twice), No. 15 Iowa (twice), No. 16 Memphis (might play in Orlando) No. 22 Wisconsin (twice), and No. 25 Indiana. Minnesota (No. 35), Illinois (No. 46), Butler (No. 53), and LSU (No. 59) are in the top 60 as teams Purdue will play or will possibly play.
