2014 Purdue Football Recruiting: Week 9 HS Results

A look at how Purdue's 2014 commitments did last week.

Brian Spurlock-USA TODAY Sports

Here in Indiana the high school playoffs begin, but the biggest news is that we have a new commitment to track this week. About a week after I reported it Illinois receiver Simmie Cobbs officially committed to the Boilermakers. The 3-star receiver from Oak Park, Illinois now gives Purdue 10 commitments in the class of 2014.

Here is how the class looks now:

Now, onto what the recruits did last week:

Simmie Cobbs - Oak Park-River Forest HS, IL - WR - Beat Hinsdale Central 28-10 - Our first update on Cobbs sees his team move to 7-1 on the year with the final week of the regular season coming this Friday. The victory moved Oak Park River Forest into the state playoffs regardless of how their final game goes. Cobbs was like the beneficiary of his quarterback throwing for 283 yards and three scores.

Tim Cason - Clarkston HS, MI - DB - Beat Lake Orion 49-28 - Clarkston moved to 7-1 and won their conference with the victory. The story here has mostly the offensive highlights, as a running back rushed for five touchdowns. Clarkston has one more game to go before the Michigan state playoffs begin, for which they have qualified.

Gelen Robinson - Lake Central HS, IN - DE/LB - Beat Valparaiso 21-15 - Lake Central closes its regular season with a close win over Robbie Hummel's old high school. No word on what Robinson did, but his team moves to 7-2 and will host Crown Point, whom it has already beaten 23-0, in the first game of Class 6A Sectional 1. In this four-team sectional Merrillville, who beat LC earlier in the year, likely awaits in the final.

Denzel Ward - Simeon HS, Chicago, IL - OT - NOT PLAYING - In an interesting twist Ward's HS career is done. After transferring between multiple schools he is actually not playing this season at Simeon HS in Chicago. He had started there and was at IMG Academy in Florida for a time.

Drue Tranquill - Carroll HS, Ft. Wayne, IN - DB/LB - beat DeKalb 79-7 - Carroll finishes the season at 7-2 as well with an absolute thrashing of DeKalb. Tranquill ran only three times, but had 119 yards and two touchdowns.

David Blough - Creekview HS, Carrollton, TX - QB - Lost 40-10 to Poteet - Blough had 186 yards passing and a touchdown, but his team fell to 5-2 with the loss. It sounds like he does not have a ton of help on his team.

Austin McGehee - Pine Bluff, AR HS - P - Beat Fair 35-8 - McGehee performed his duties well in this game by regularly pinning his opponents deep on punts and kickoffs.

Gregory Phillips - Arabia Mountain HS, Lithonia, GA - WR - Beat North Atlanta 54-7 - Phillips had a big day in this one with five catches for 120 yards and a score as Arabia Mountain moved to 4-3 with its second straight win.

Kirk Barron - Marian HS, Mishawaka, IN - OL - Lost 28-27 at Elkhart Central - Barron's team has now lost four in a row and enters sectional play this week at 4-5 against John Glenn.

Trae Hart - First Baptist Academy, Dallas, TX - WR - Beat Highlands 52-0 - This was the second straight shutout for Hart's team and they are now 7-0 with three regular season games remaining. I finally found some full statistics thanks to the Dallas Morning News and Hart is going crazy this year. He has 26 catches for 610 yards and 10 touchdowns. He also has seven more scores in the return game.
